How it all started
Girls Curls Jewelry is a mother-daughter run jewelry business based in Sunnyvale, CA. Diane (the mother) and Rachel (the daughter) design and make all the jewelry ourselves.
Girls Curls Jewelry started in December 2017 while sitting at our kitchen table at home. The idea began after Diane bought a leather bracelet that she just LOVED and decided she wanted to learn how to make one herself. She couldn’t just make one bracelet, and pretty soon everyone in our family had their very own leather bracelet. She kept making bracelets until she realized that she had run out of people to give the bracelets to and turned her hobby into a business.
Meet the Makers
Diane received her Bachelors of Science in Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She began her career at Macy’s where she did product development for fine jewelry. She travelled overseas to source jewelry, and developed and designed jewelry with manufacturers. Next, Diane moved to San Francisco and worked as an assistant buyer in the costume jewelry department. From there Diane decided to work in store as a sales support manager for accessories, handbags, costume jewelry, fine jewelry, and cosmetics. After taking a break to raise her two kids, Diane returned to jewelry with the start of Girls Curls Jewelry.
Rachel studied microbiology at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and worked research assistant at Stanford in an immunology lab. She recently moved to Denver, CO and is currently a medical student at CU Anschutz in the Medical Scientist Training Program. Rachel loves helping run Girls Curls Jewelry with her mom, designing bracelets, and getting to be creative.
